Dancing You & Improvisation of the Dance
Session I: Dancing You – A Practice of Somatic Communication
Duration: 2 hours
I warmly invite you to a dance workshop!
Join us for an intensive session where, through movement and dance, we’ll explore various techniques of improvisation and somatic communication.
In a safe and welcoming atmosphere, rooted in a culture of consent, we will:
Learn how to communicate through touch,
Practice leading another person with curiosity,
Activate our motor and cognitive systems.
You’ll discover how our nervous systems can “speak” to each other through dance – helping us better understand and sense one another, both on the dance floor and in everyday life.
Most importantly, we’ll have a great time!
This workshop is open to everyone, regardless of prior dance experience.
We’ll be working in pairs, so get ready for plenty of contact, touch, and collaboration.
Session II: Dance Improvisation – Articulation: From Within to Without
Duration: 2 hours
I invite you to an intensive movement and dance improvisation workshop!
We’ll be working with tools from physical theatre, contact improvisation, and original movement techniques.
During the session, we will:
Expand our kinesthetic awareness and sensitivity,
Develop movement repertoire, including stability and mobility in various positions,
Explore the articulation of movement to enhance clarity and expressiveness,
Work on movement composition – so that what is expressed externally fully reflects our inner states.
This workshop is open to everyone, regardless of dance background.
Join us and explore movement from the inside out!
Filip Wencki
For nearly 20 years, I have been a dancer, performer, and educator specializing in improvisation, particularly contact improvisation.
My journey with performing arts began in physical theatre, where I co-created the experimental group Linia Nocna and was a member of the international research ensemble The Bridge of Winds, led by Odin Teatret.
As a physical theatre actor, I performed in Poland, Denmark, France, Cyprus, and Colombia.
At the same time, I was developing as a dancer in contemporary dance and improvisation projects.
Later, I became involved in choreography, directing, and artistic production – both for stage and video art.
My works have been presented at international dance film festivals, including Jumping Frames in Hong Kong and Short Waves in Poznań.
I am the author of chapters in Polish publications on contact improvisation and a member of ECITE, the European Contact Improvisation Teachers Exchange.
I have taught at numerous dance festivals, including Warsaw Flow, FRU Festival, Cyrkulacje, Teatr Tańca, and Festiwal Zawirowania, as well as at renowned festivals in Germany, Italy, Spain, Ukraine, Sweden, Thailand, and Malaysia.
