African Dance

We’ll shift into high gear—get your blood flowing, your heart rate and breath rising, and feel a wave of endorphins kick in.
This is definitely a workshop for those who love movement and rhythm, who are searching for space within their body and want to explore it.
African dance is joy and expression. Many of its steps were born from imitating everyday activities or from the desire to highlight the qualities of the dancing body—like the strength of men, the agility, speed, and bounce of young girls, the sensuality and softness of young women, or the dignity and elegance of older women.
Learning this dance is also a way to dive into African folklore and rhythms.
The energy and joy that comes from uninhibited movement to the trance-like beat of drums has made this dance increasingly popular across Europe and around the world.
For over a dozen years, it’s been danced not only by the native peoples of Africa, but also by dancers and choreographers seeking to reconnect with the roots of dance.
At Tribaland, you’ll have the rare opportunity to dance to live drum music tailored especially for this workshop—performed by musicians from the band Moribaya and their friends.

Anika

Anika Kamińska – a passionate devotee of music and dance, she has dedicated her entire life to these art forms, using rhythm and movement to share positive energy with others.
Trained as an archaeologist with a specialization in underwater archaeology, she is also an avid traveler and lover of traditional cultures.
But above all, Anika is a musician and dancer of traditional West African dance.
She specializes in playing ethnic percussion instruments from various parts of the world. Years ago, while learning to play the drums, she encountered African dance—and it was love at first sight. Since then, she has consistently developed her skills in this field. She approaches rhythm and dance as an inseparable whole, deeply understanding the connection between the two, which she brings to life—and shares with infectious enthusiasm—in her workshops.
Her passion for drums and dance has taken her on numerous journeys to Africa and Cuba. She studied African dance in Mali, Guinea, Burkina Faso, and Côte d’Ivoire, learning from renowned masters of African ballet as well as acclaimed Europe-based dancers.
Anika is also actively involved in promoting West African culture.
She is the co-organizer of the Around The Rhythm Festival, regularly leads workshops at festivals throughout Poland and abroad, and is the founder and musician in the bands Moribaya and Madrugada. She is also the founder of Ankata! – School of World Rhythms.
