In 2014, Alex Serra landed in Cape Town, South Africa and met musician Yannick Meyer, with whom he formed a close friendship. Together, they started a project called “African psychedelic pop” called Native Young, which included a band playing the marimba from the townships of Gugulethu, Kayelitsha, and Philippi. This cultural and musical exploration changed his life, inspiring him to discover his own musical universe upon returning home in 2016.
In Barcelona, he began playing at local open mics, such as the legendary Club Cronopios, under the pseudonym Gato Suave and connected with the city’s music scene. In 2017, a friend introduced him to Toti Arimany (@totidub) when he was looking for a producer to help refine his demo album. That’s when the magic exploded once again…
